Pathways to Previous Events

Find out about our conferences, open schools and Meet and Magpie events. We hold three Isle of Wight based conferences during the year, each with a different focus: Leadership, Inclusion and Early Years. Isle of Wight schools are also regularly invited to open their doors to share good practice as part of our open schools programme, followed up by a 'meet and magpie', which provides networking opportunities and a chance to 'magpie' excellent ideas to use in the classroom from other schools and professionals; all for free.

Early Years

On 7th November, we held our first Early Years Conference at Northwood House. Alistair Bryce-Clegg was our speaker for the day, talking about 'Letting Children Lead the Learning' and how to ensure continuous provision was challenging to the needs of the children. Members of our Early Years Steering Group also exhibited stands of their own practice with ideas for Forest Schools, Funky Fingers, Home Learning, Phonics, Planning in the Moment and Identiplay.
Our first Early Years 'Meet and Magpie' was held at Broadlea Primary School on 4th July 2018. Island teachers shared their ideas for developing Phonics, writing, transition to Year 1 and Forest Schools. There was also an opportunity to explore Broadlea's wonderful EYFS and Year 1 learning environments.

Inclusion

We held a very successful Inclusion and Behaviour Conference with Paul Dix as our keynote speaker back in March 2018. There were also Inclusion workshops, table top presentations and a very tasty afternoon tea provided.

Leadership

Our second Leadership Conference was held on 24th May 2019 and had the wonderful Sir William Atkinson and Phil Beadle as our keynote speakers. We also heard from Anita Warwick and Keith Watson, who presented on our theme of Brave Leadership.
Our first Leadership Conference with keynote speaker Damian Hughes was held at the Quay Arts Centre on 29th June 2018. Damian engaged us with stories, research and life experiences linked on how to build behaviours within teams. we also heard from Wendy Smith, Matt Miller, Bob Seely and Gioia Minghella-Giddens.

LSA and TA Network Meeting

On 27th September 2018, Nine Acres Primary School held our first LSA and TA Network Meeting. It was very well attended with almost thirty staff from Isle of Wight schools. They identified areas of need for future training and formed links to share good practice. A second event will be held later in the year to follow up on their partnership working and the Island Teaching Alliance are planning training events to support their identified needs, which we will share with all schools.
