Pathways to Teaching

We are committed to growing our own teachers in our own schools. We know that training and development of our dedicated young teachers is important and an investment of time. We understand the demands of the role and want to ensure that we are supportive and compassionate in developing their pathways to success.

Initial Teacher Training

Your pathway to the best job in the world starts with us, as the Island Teaching Alliance is proud to announce its first Schools Direct PGCE with QTS. We are able to offer placements in our schools for the academic year 2019-20, in partnership with the University of Southampton. Please see our Teaching Training Information 2019-20 document for more information.

Isle of Wight schools have had a long and established working relationship with teaching universities and providers. These currently include the University of Winchester, University of Southampton and University of Chichester.

The Isle of Wight also has School Direct providers through Halterworth Teaching School, Portsmouth Teaching School and The Bay Primary School.

Schools on the Isle of Wight have also begun to be involved in the Teach First programme and as Teaching Alliance, we are looking to further develop this link, as well as explore the Teaching Degree Apprenticeship.
